Introductions

Humphries, Barry. "Foreword."  Night Voices.  London: Victor Gollancz, 1985.

A personal reminiscence of Humphries' acquaintance with Aickman's work;  notes Aickman's "flashes of humour and sly, morbid eroticism" and the wide varieties of the stories' settings, and compares them with "some of the best psychological ghost stories of Walter de la Mare."

Straub, Peter.  "Introduction."  The Wine-Dark Sea.  New York:  Arbor House, 1988.

A very valuable and perceptive introduction from a writer's point of view. Says that Aickman is the opposite of Stephen King in that there are none of the pat, logical conclusions one finds in King's work.

Tibet, David. "Robert Aickman: An Appreciation."  The Collected Strange Stories.  Horam: Tartarus Press and Durtro Press, 1999.

A recollection of Tibet's personal interest in Aickman, which moved from puzzlement to understanding. Sees Aickman as an individual man and author.
